NPC of import
Name: Vasto Arkaus (Are-Kay-Us)
Age: Nearly five hundred and fifty years old.
Background: Vasto is something akin to a demigod. While there are stories about where he came from, and how he came to become what he is today, all agree that it started in France, his self-proclaimed birthplace. It is thought by those aware of the sort of things that he represents, that he has been responsible for much of the strife that civilization has encountered over time, not directly, but through different avatars and often unwilling accomplices.
He seems to need no food, no water, no sleep, and little, if any heat to survive. He seems to be utterly contemptuous of modern entertainment, and so, he entertains himself in different ways. One of his favorite activities, and one of his cruelest, is the bequeathing of power to normal people. Some, of course, embrace it, but he seems to enjoy it far more when the "Gift" is unwanted. This, it is thought, is how much of his destruction is wrought. Without exception, the power he gives is wild, and singularly difficult to control, which lends a certain guarantee of eventual destruction. At least one serious plague can be attributed to his "Gifts". More to the point however, he seems to deeply enjoy the steady decline of his scions, leading them with taunts and promises, until they become so utterly broken that they take their own lives. It is, in his words, "The most perfect game in creation."
It seems, from both his activities, and what few written records of his victims testimony survive, that Vasto has a deep-seated desire to effect the world. To him, it is scale that matters, not intent or ethics, and he has become truly efficient at his favorite pastime. It is a small blessing that he keeps, at most, six scions at any one time, as it would likely cause widespread and irreparable damage to the world otherwise.
So, these are his actions, but what of the man himself? Truth be told, very little is known. He has as little trouble changing his form as he does changing the lives of others, and the usual classifications for people seem to ill fit him. Still, If anything can be said with confidence, let it be this, Vasto Arkaus is a creature not be trifled with.
